PADI Europe call by Paradise!

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

It was great to meet again with Christian from PADI Europe who called in on his tour of the Island. These visits are vital to us as they provide the perfect opportunity to discuss new PADI initiatives, educate ourselves on new PADI strategies and also to glimpse the bigger picture on the way that PADI worldwide is moving forward.

As a PADI authorized Dive Center we are supported by PADI with the latest in Dive Industry thinking, training procedures, safety regulations and above all providing diver satisfaction! The PADI brand is recognized world wide and as such ensures you the diver that whether you are diving in the UK, here in Tenerife or even a remote isle that when you are diving with a PADI establishment that standardized procedures for training and diving are adhered to and most importantly regulated. As a PADI Dive Center we are listed in and linked from the PADI Dive Shop Locator.

PADI Dive Shop Locator

The PADI website receives more than 1.6 million monthly page views and through the dive shop locator provides a comprehensive list of those PADI Dive centers that have met and often superseded the set standards as determined by PADI. Not only do these cover the facilities provided by the center, the staff, the training that is conducted but most importantly for you that all the necessary safety policies and procedures are in place; including insurance!!!  If you need assurance that a PADI dive center is who they claim to be; then check them out.

Meanwhile we continue to work with PADI to provide you our divers with the best all round dive experience possible!

Feel free to drop us an email if you have any further questions about us, our association with PADI or if you just want to come diving!

MY SCUBA ADVENTURE By Jamie Age: 9

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

This is all about my scuba adventure!

.

In the morning at 10:30 I went in the diving centre and tried on two wet suits on. The first one was way too small the second one was made for me. Then I got my
tank on and here is a picture of me when I was ready.

Then I went to the deep end and did a giant stride to enter the pool and here is a Picture of me. It was freezing when I jumped in!

After that I went to the deep end and…………….

The skill I was going to do was to clear my mask. You do this by putting two fingers on the top of your mask looking up [close your eyes if you don't like water in
your eyes] blowing down your nose like blowing your nose and tilt your head up.

After that we played some games they were Frisbee, shark, torpedo, under water tennis and lots more.

I hope you enjoyed reading this and now you can do this just book it. It will keep kids happy!

Trans-Atlantic Turtle

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

A loggerhead sea turtle has crossed the Atlantic in five months, a Spanish nature foundation said Wednesday. The turtle, named Aurora, was captured in the Canary Islands and a signal transmitter was placed on its 53-centimetre-long shell in July 2009.The turtle later embarked on an Atlantic crossing during which its movements were followed over a satellite. Aurora has now arrived in the eastern part of the Caribbean, after having travelled more than 6,000 kilometers, according to the Environmental Observatory of Granadilla on Tenerife Island. Aurora is the first turtle captured in the Canaries whose movements have been recorded during a transatlantic crossing. However, such crossings are not rare for marine turtles, which travel long distances when they are young and often return to their native areas to breed. Aurora’s crossing to the Americas could thus indicate that she was born there, the foundation said. Check out the link for more information and see the map tracking Aurora and the other turtles.

Scuba Medic Dive Insurance

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

We are now able to offer daily, weekly, monthly or annual dive Insurance through Scuba Medic. This can be issued for just one day at a cost of €3.75 and provides you with immediate coverage so you can get on and enjoy your diving!

As part of our diver registration procedure we will ask for your dive insurance documents. If you already have designated dive Insurance such as DAN, PADI, Dive assure, Dive master etc, please remember to bring your policy document with you when diving in order for us to note down the policy provider, policy number, start/ end dates and contact telephone number. Your holiday insurance policies may cover you to dive so check the terms of your policy with regard to diving. If you are unsure then bring your policy documents with you and we will check for you.

The costs of medical treatment abroad can be very expensive should you require hospitalisation or recompression treatment whilst scuba diving. It is for the protection of your own personal finances that you ensure you have adequate diving insurance cover.

Please note that Spanish Diving Laws (B.E. no. 280, 22nd November 1997, Ministerio de Fomento) state that it is mandatory that all divers here in Tenerife have Personal Accident and Third Party Liability Insurance. This law is applicable to all qualified divers.

If you have any further questions regarding the Dive Insurance cover that is required in Tenerife or would like further policy information for Scuba Medic Insurance then please drop us an email and we will be happy to advise further.

Fantastic Accommodation options!

Monday, August 31st, 2009

If you are looking for some nearby accommodation options then we have contacts with privately owned apartments & villas in Callao Salvaje; all within 5mins walking distance of the dive centre! The accommodation available includes a 1 bed S/C apartment on a nearby resort, 2 & 3 bed apartments on residential complexes and 4 & 5 bed villas complete with private pool & BBQ areas. These options can sleep from 2-10persons and really do offer great value for money with many starting at as little as €60 per person per week! We do not act as booking agents; instead we pass on the owners details so that you deal directly and therefore ensure the best deal! This seems to work for all parties and we have had some great comments and email feedback from those that have arranged their holiday accommodation.

Just to say Thank you very much indeed for the loan of your apartment. We had a wonderful time and I completed my PADI open water diving course with Paradise Divers. Jon and Kirsten were very helpful and Tim and Ben managed to get a lot of dives in too. You really should do the course if you can!

If you would like more details of these accommodation options then just let us know via email and we will pass the owners contacts directly to you.

Spotting A Sea Horse!

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

We have had great fun over the last few dives trying to spot sea horses! With great viz, calm seas and lots of summer “growth” providing excellent camouflage we have spotted a few of these little fellows! Even once spotted; just turning to signal your buddy can lead to them being “lost” again in the sea grasses and algae. A well tuned eye for spotting the curl of the tail or the dip in their “snout” is essential for pinpointing these elusive creatures! It all adds to the excitement and anticipation during a dive and is definitely a magical find. Check out on our facebook page in Paco’s Pictures for some of this underwater action! http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=85143&id=20558184560&ref=mf
